Instead of acknowledging applause, I stand there unmoving while they take part in the boldest form of dissent they can manage. Silence. Which says we do not agree. We do not condone. All of this is wrong.

I could watch Peeta body slam Cato all day, every day. And the look on his face when they hug. Awwww…he realizes that they actually did it. He survived and, most importantly, Katniss survived.

“I want to do something, right here, right now, to shame them, to make them accountable, to show the Capitol that whatever they do or force us to do there is a part of every tribute they can’t own. That Rue was more than a piece in their Games. And so am I.”

Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, you have provided a spark, that left unattended, may grow into an inferno that destroys Panem. - President Snow
“The thing that finally pushes The Hunger Games over the top is the performance by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, and finally, here’s a pop culture phenomenon centered around a female character who I can fully endorse, who manages real strength without simply being a female version of a male character. She is strong, she is capable, she is emotional, and she is human, and the script, adapted by Ross and Billy Ray, allows Katniss all of her rough edges, and Lawrence invests her with a rich inner life that makes her feel real. It is a pure movie star performance, and Lawrence rises to the occasion.” [x]

Ok, so I originally wrote this in reaction to a post from a fellow fan whose thoughts and fic I greatly admire. I apologize in advance for the novel-length of this post, but I just have so many FEELINGS regarding both book Peeta and movie Peeta and these thoughts have been rambling around my brain ever since I watched the movie. Maybe not so surprisingly considering his popularity in the books, Peeta’s characterization in the film seems to be quite polarizing.
